H.R. 34, the 21st Century Cures Act. The Association advocated for investment in diabetes research but didnt take a formal position on the legislation. H.R. 5003, the Improving Child Nutrition and Education Act of 2016. Oppose entire bill; reauthorizes child nutrition programs. S. 3136, the Improving Child Nutrition Integrity and Access Act of 2016. Support entire bill; reforms and reauthorizes child nutrition programs. H.R. 1192/S. 586, the National Clinical Care Commission Act. Support entire bill; creates a commission to integrate federal research, prevention, and clinical efforts on diabetes and related metabolic and autoimmune diseases. Issues worked on not yet reflected in legislation: Affordable Care Act (ACA) Repeal. The Association opposes efforts in the House and Senate to repeal the ACA without simultaneously enacting a replacement bill that offers equal or greater coverage and consumer protections. This includes, but is not limited to opposing forthcoming budget reconciliation legislation. Cost of prescription drugs. The Association is concerned about the rising cost of insulin and other diabetes medications. The Association has not endorsed any legislative proposal but has advocated for Congress to hold hearings with all parties in the insulin supply chain to increase transparency and ultimately make insulin more affordable for patients.
