On January 16, Religious Freedom Day 2015, the Center for Inquiry urged all members of the 114th Congress in its new session to support the core principles of separation of church and state, freedom of religion, belief, and expression, and civil rights for all. The week of March 23-27, the Center for Inquiry urged all members of Congress to oppose a bill by Rep. Sam Johnson (R-TX), the Preserve and Protect God in Military Oaths Act of 2015 (H.R. 1425), which would prevent the military from making any changes to its oaths without obtaining congressional approval. This measure would effectively force cadets and servicemembers to swear an oath to God whether they believe in one or not.
