The budget reconciliation bill, referred to as the Build Back Better Act, contains significant funding for a new port electrification grant program to help ports purchase electric cargo handling equipment. We held a meeting and are forming a collaborative working relationship with ARPA-E, within the Department of Energy, to discuss zero emission fuels that may be used in the future to power ocean going vessels. The Diesel Emissions Reduction Act grant program is slated to receive funding in the budget reconciliation bill, which would allow ports to replace diesel-powered machines with electric models. The Climate Smart Ports Act, H.R. 501/S. 216, would create a new port emissions reduction grant program. The Climate Action Planning at Ports Act, H.R. 862, would create a grant program to incentivize ports to create and implement climate action plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants. The LIFT America Act, H.R.1848, would create a new grant program to fund electrification of port infrastructure and power.
