Food and Drug Administration oversight of tobacco products; in general. Clarification of tobacco cessation benefits in the Affordable Care Act; in general. Issues re: proposed changes in the design and composition of cigarettes to eliminate the increased risk of disease and death identified by the Surgeon General in the report released in January. Opposition to any amendment to Appropriations legislation that would exempt any type of cigar from regulation under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, P.L. 111-31, or would impede the current rulemaking process the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has initiated to determine the appropriate level of oversight for tobacco products not currently regulated by the agency. Support for amendments to the FY2015 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill to require the Department of Transportation (DOT) to complete a 2011 rulemaking regarding the use of electronic cigarettes on aircraft within 90 days of enactment of the appropriations bill. Comments re: FDA's proposed regulation extending its jurisdiction to various "deemed" tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes. Support for the provision included in the Senate Defense Subcommittee's bill that directs the Secretary of Defense to eliminate price discounting for tobacco products sold in military commissaries and exchanges. H.R. 5486/S. 2581, the Child Nicotine Poisoning Prevention Act of 2014; all provisions. Opposition to proposed language included in the House version of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2015 (NDAA FY 2015) bill that would prohibit the Secretary of Defense and the Secretaries of the military departments from implementing any new policy to limit, restrict, or ban the sale of any legal consumer product currently sold at commissaries or exchanges.
