We opposed a proposal that would force some pass-through entities (such as S corporations, personal service corporations, and partnerships) to stop using cash basis accounting. This change could impact hundreds of thousands of farms in the United States. Forcing farms and other businesses that are incorporated as pass-through entities to switch from cash to accrual basis accounting would accelerate their owners' personal tax obligations.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) issued a proposed rule redefining the scope of the federal governments jurisdiction over Waters of the United States under the Clean Water Act. Along with this proposal, EPA and the Corps issued an Interpretive Rule on March 25, 2014 with the intent of clarifying how the recently proposed rule would impact normal farming, ranching, and silvicultural exemptions under Section 404(f)(1)(A) of the Clean Water Act. We supported the Agricultural Conservation Flexibility Act, which would invalidate the EPAs Interpretive Rule and make it clear that NRCS conservation activities are normal farming activities and exempted from Sec. 404.

Encouraged lawmakers to sign a letter opposing ICE raids in courthouses. Explored possible guest worker solutions for the dairy industry, similar to the AgJobs provisions of S. 744.

Opposed the inclusion of geographical indicator regulations pertaining to cheese as part of ongoing TTIP negotiations. Also worked with lawmakers to encourage trade negotiators to remove as many trade barriers to American dairy products as possible during TTIP negotiations.
