Support passage of legislation to authorize the National Pediatric Research Consortia. Advocated for Congress to address access to pediatric health care in the current health reform implementation, and to initiate comprehensive child health care reform necessary to improve access to quality care for children, which was not the focus of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Advocating for an adjustment in the disparity between reimbursement rates for Medicaid and the cost of providing services, exempt free-standing childrens hospitals from DSH cuts scheduled to begin in 2014, the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) must evaluate the impact of low reimbursement for pediatric specialty care, and ensure that children and childrens hospitals are included in the innovative quality of care and payment reform demonstrations and pilots being initiated under ACA.

To eliminate wait times of 8-10 weeks and provide more advanced imaging services to patients, we are seeking funding to purchase a 3 Tesla MRI, which has substantially greater diagnostic capabilities than the current unit and would benefit all of the key service that support patients.

Advocate for federal funding for GAPPS Project -- Understanding Increased Risk of Preterm Birth and Stillbirth in a Post-Combat Setting. This request is aimed at improving our understanding of factors which contribute to preterm and stillbirths around the world. Specifically, federal funding would examine how and whether poor nutrition, impoverishment, the high stress of living in war-torn areas, and exposure to various toxins and pathogens increase rates of preterm birth and stillbirth rates. This project will provide the U.S. Army with research that will inspire new diagnostics, therapeutics and other innovations to improve birth outcomes and prevent prematurity and stillbirths. This research will extrapolate to a broader range of maternal health conditions as they relate to the priorities of the Department of Defense for warfighter health. Advocated for legislativion to create pediatric research hubs to maximize the impact of existing pediatric research capacity and boost funding for research benefitting children.
Urgent fixes are needed, including: health insurance exchanges must allow negotiation and not government set reimbursement rates, improve reimbursement rates for kids.
