Support HR 1585, the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Support legislation to addresses a loop-hole from the Shepard-Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act where a crime cant be prosecuted as a hate crime if there was possibly a mixed motive Support H. Res. 747, acknowledging that the War on Drugs has been a failed policy in achieving the goal of reducing drug use Support the following levels in the final Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations bill: $7 million for the Wrongful Conviction Review Program at the Department of Justice (DoJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance (the Wrongful Conviction Review Program is a part of the Capital Litigation Improvement Program);$8 million for the Kirk Bloodsworth Post-Conviction DNA Testing Program at the DoJ, National Institute of Justice (NIJ); $30 million for the Coverdell Forensic Sciences Improvement Grant Program at NIJ; $4 million to support forensic science standards setting activities at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); and $15 million for NIST to support forensic science research and measurement science. Support legislation which would remove the age requirement for those seeking an expungement order for first-time drug possession offenses Support the Khalid Jabara and Heather Heyer National Opposition to Hate, Assault, and Threats to Equality (NO HATE Act) (S.2043 / HR 3545). The Jabara-Heyer NO HATE Act is an important piece of legislation that would improve hate crime statistics and promote a better response to hate crime within our communities. Support H. Res. 641, a resolution rejecting the racist and imperialist language present in the U.S. Supreme Court decisions referred to as the Insular Cases. These cases were decided in the early 20th century and establish the relationship between the United States and its territories, rest on deeply offensive racial and cultural assumptions, and include such terms as alien races and savage and restless people when referring to the people living in U.S. territories Oppose the confirmation of Sarah Pitlyk to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri Support H.R. 5466, legislation which would add hate crimes to the list of qualifying crimes under the U visa program Oppose H.R. 5331 , the Fairness For All Act. If enacted, this bill would undermine civil rights protections for women, people of color, people of faith and create substandard protections for LGBTQ people Oppose the Stopping Overdoses of Fentanyl Act because rather than focusing resources on reducing overdose deaths from synthetic drugs, the bill would grant the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) broad authority within the scheduling process, increase sentences, and expose many more individuals to harsh penalties, including mandatory minimum sentences Support the inclusion of H.R. 1076, the Fair Chance to Compete for Jobs Act of 2019 in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2020. H.R 1076 would ban the box on federal government and federal contractors job applications, and thus postpone a request for conviction history information until the applicant has received a conditional offer of employment Oppose the confirmation of Steven Menashi to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Support S. 2227 / H.R. 3884, the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act of 2019. The MORE Act calls for and funds social equity programs for individuals and the communities most harmed by the misdirected War on Drugs. Oppose the confirmation of Judge Halil Ozerden to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Support H.R. 1585 / S. 2843 which would reauthorize and strengthen the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). H.R. 1585 / S 2843 would: invest in prevention; end impunity for non-Native perpetrators of sexual assault, child abuse co-occurring with domestic violence, stalking, sex trafficking, and assaults on tribal law enforcement officers on tribal lands; improve enforcement of court orders that require adjudicated domestic abusers to relinquish their firearms; improve access to housing for victims and survivors; protects victims of dating violence from firearm homicide; help survivors gain and maintain economic independence; update the federal definition of domestic violence for the purposes of VAWA grants only to acknowledge the full range of abuse victims suffer (it does not impact the criminal definition of domestic violence); maintain existing protections for all survivors; and it improves the healthcare systems response to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking, including adding stalkers to the list of those who are prohibited from possessing firearms. Support HR 1423,the Forced Arbitration Injustice Repeal or FAIR Act which would protect the legal rights of all Americans to access the courts when they have been harmed. HR 1423 would prevent companies from forcing harmed consumers, workers, and other individuals into private, rigged arbitration systems to resolve disputes. The FAIR Act would also prohibit class action lawsuit waivers, sometimes known as collective action waivers, which are commonly included in most forced arbitration contracts

Prohibited items would include grenades, mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles (MRAPs), armored or weaponized drones, combat configured aircraft, silencers, and long range acoustic devises (LRADs). This bill would also prohibit the future transfer of items that are currently banned from the 1033 program; Eliminate incentives for the inappropriate use of military weapons and equipment: LEAs would be required to have training and give community notice before participating in the 1033 program. LEAs would also have to indicate how they plan to use 1033 property; and Require oversight and transparency of the 1033 program: Annual reporting from the Department of Defense to Congress would be required. This penalty is now so severe and pervasive that it has virtually eliminated the constitutional right to a trial); support reforms that should be considered include requiring meaningful overt acts to be held liable as a co-conspirator, support criminal sanction fees and fines do not exacerbate poverty by establishing national standards that enforce the Supreme Courts requirement that fines and fees account for a defendants ability to pay; support oversight and regulation of the use of confidential informants; support a close examination of supervision practices and sex and other public conviction registries; support the decriminalization of migration Support a bill to provide colleges and universities with guidance and recommendations on the removal of criminal and juvenile justice questions from their initial application for admissions process. Therefore, we urge the Department to ensure that: (1) An appropriate non-partisan non-profit host organization is selected to appoint and convene the members of the Independent Review Committee as required by the statute; (2) Neither the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) security classification system nor the current version of PCRA is adopted as a substitute for the new Risk and Needs Assessment System required by the statute; and (3) The Bureau of Prisons immediately begins providing rehabilitative programming Support the Police Exercising Adequate Care With Everyone (PEACE) Act of 2019. It would also ban the use of federal funding by any agency to intrude in states and local municipalities that have updated their laws regarding cannabis use, possession, cultivation and distribution. Support S. 1764, the Martha Wright-Reed Just and Reasonable Communications Act of 2019 which affirms the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) authority to address a market failure to protect family, clergy and counsel who communicate with incarcerated people. Oppose S.1622 - Stopping Overdoses of Fentanyl Analogues Act (SOFA) because rather than focusing resources on reducing overdose deaths from synthetic drugs, the bill would grant the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) broad authority within the scheduling process, increase sentences, and expose many more individuals to harsh penalties, including mandatory minimum sentences. Support S 2434, the National Criminal Justice Act which would create a national commission with an 18-month timeline to examine and review the myriad of problems that exist in our current criminal justice system. Support S. 2227 / H.R. 3884, the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act which will de-schedule marijuana and fund social equity programs for individuals and communities most harmed by the war on drugs. The bill would also provide a process for courts to expunge marijuana convictions and re-sentence people with marijuana convictions and establish that no person will be denied federal benefits on the basis of use or possession of marijuana. The bill prohibits immigration penalties based on marijuana. Finally, the bill creates a Cannabis Opportunity Trust Fund from federal marijuana tax revenue that will establish (1) the Community Reinvestment Grant Program to fund community organizations providing services in communities most harmed by the war on drugs; (2) the Cannabis Opportunity Program to fund Small Business Administration loans to support socially and economically disadvantaged individuals who own marijuana businesses; and (3) the Equitable Licensing Grant Program to provide jurisdictions with funds to develop and implement equitable marijuana licensing programs targeting individuals most adversely impacted by the war on drugs Support the Forced Arbitration Injustice Repeal Act (FAIR Act), H.R.1423 / S. 610, legislation which would prevent companies from forcing individuals to give up their day in court and instead use the secretive, business-controlled process of arbitration for resolving disputes. To grant release, the court must find that the person is not a danger to public safety and demonstrates readiness for reentry, and that the interests of justice warrant a sentence modification. Petitioners who are 50 or older would have a rebuttable presumption of release Support HR 4584, the Financial Aid Fairness for Students Act, or FAFSA, which rescinds current law delaying or denying federal financial aid to students convicted of drug offenses Oppose nomination of Steven Menashi to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Oppose the judicial nomination of anyone who refuses to endorse the Supreme Courts ruling in Brown v. Support the H.R. 1714, the Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act, legislation introduced by Congressman Hank Johnson which would amend the 1033 program to: Prohibit the transfer of military weapons and equipment that are unnecessary and inappropriate for local policing.
