1. Support efforts to advance transportation and infrastructure polices for truck, rail, waterways and ports that will enhance the efficient and cost-effective transport of agricultural and food products, including pet food. 2. Supports general efforts to pass bipartisan, targeted rail safety legislation to reduce the risk of future derailments while also ensuring a reliable, economically sustainable railroad freight transportation system. 3. Supports the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rejecting a request from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for authorization of regulations that would target key aspects of the operation of freight locomotives in California. 4. H.R. 8996: The Railroad Safety Enhancement Act of 2024 which would enhance safety requirements for trains transporting hazardous materials. Concerned about the potential impacts it will have on the agricultural industry; if enacted, the legislation might cause supply chain disruptions without doing much to improve rail safety. 5. Concerned about the rail service capacity issues in Mexico that are hindering U.S. agricultural trade with this critical partner. An increased demand for rail service coupled with insufficient investment in rail infrastructure has led to embargoes, congestion, and slowed servicing of U.S. agricultural products.
